Enhancing feelings of joy and confidence
In 2023, I suffered a frightening health crisis, resulting in early retirement. The health crisis, though very much better now, coupled with loss of employment and income, triggered intense anxiety. I was drowning in fear. Thankfully, I had tools and friends to help me survive, thrive, and find joy.
When we experience extreme life events, we set off fight, flight, or freeze emotions. Our basic survival is threatened. That’s Root Chakra imbalance. That is where I started in my recovery. Next, I focused on balancing the fear energy and calming the nervous system.
The Sacral Chakra is our center for fun, joy, and pleasure. To restore balance, we must face our demons and start the often challenging task of processing our emotions.
That state of grace is what we’re after. Processing emotions properly can be a gateway to getting there.

Ylang Ylang essential oil is steam distilled from the flowers of the Ylang Ylang tree (Cananga Odorata). It has an exotic, soothing floral scent and is one of the major ingredients in Chanel No. 5 perfume.
Using Ylang Ylang to Balance the Sacral Chakra
The Sacral Chakra is located above the Root Chakra and below the belly button. It is the home of our creativity, sexuality, and our emotional identity.
Start by placing a drop into the palm of one hand and gently massaging it with the other. This helps break up the molecules so the oil is quickly absorbed. Now, inhale.
Next, apply this essential oil to the Sacral.
Also, diffuse. Remember that if it is a pure essential oil (and you should never use anything less than 100% pure), it is very concentrated. A drop or two at the most is sufficient.
Other Uses for Ylang Ylang
- Antidepressant
- Antiseptic
- Antispasmodic
- Sedative
- High blood pressure – hypertension
- Mental fatigue
- Hair loss
Inhale and diffuse as suggested above. Apply to the area of concern. For example, a drop can be applied to the heart as an antidepressant, a sedative, or to help with high blood pressure. For hair loss, add a drop to shampoo or simply massage it into your scalp. And always apply to the soles of your feet.
I firmly believe in Eastern traditions, especially when healing the whole body. It is not an exaggeration to say that essential oils have changed my life in beautiful, healthy, and amazing ways.
Ylang-ylang has long been noted for its aphrodisiac properties, but it is also an oil that induces a state of deep relaxation.
