Freedom

Back view of a barefoot woman with long white hair, wearing a flowing watercolor-toned caftan, standing on the Chesapeake Bay shoreline at sunrise with arms outstretched toward the glowing horizon.
A dawn of quiet celebration—honoring the freedom to greet each new day with open arms and an open heart.

A Meditation for Independence Day

As we approach Independence Day, I’ve been reflecting on the many layers of freedom that live in body, heart, and spirit.

I am free to be all of me, through grace and growth.
~Lee Byrd

Freedom to rest—cradled in the arms of Mother Earth.
Freedom to embrace passion and joy, to create wild, wondrous me.
Freedom to shine and share my light, a beacon of hope for all in need.
Freedom to love—and be loved—unconditionally, exactly as I am.
Freedom to let my voice rise and speak its singular truth.
Freedom to see beyond the veil of illusion.
Freedom to know without knowing how, and to surrender into the gentle embrace of the Divine Mother.

There is no happiness without freedom, and freedom is not given to us by anyone; we have to cultivate it ourselves … freedom from affliction, from anger, and from despair.
~Thich Nhat Hanh

What does freedom feel like today?
Not the kind handed down by governments or won in battle…
but the kind we cultivate from within.
Freedom to rest. To love. To speak. To shine. 🌞
Happy Independence Day, wherever you are on the journey.
