Living a life of love and compassion.
Some believe hate is the opposite of love, but it is not. Hate is the absence of love—or, more accurately, the avoidance of love. Love is ever present, always here in abundance. Love is our true, divine nature.
Believing in the absence of love creates an enormous void, a painful hole in our hearts. Actually, hatefulness is an illusion. This is not woo-woo rhetoric, it is the truth. We are love. Hate lures us into denying this truth.
Hate is a strong emotion with the power to dominate every move and every decision a person makes. Hate can be all-consuming, even addictive. It generally arises from deep seated, undifferentiated fear.
A demanding, alluring master, hate promises power to those who blindly follow without questioning the propaganda, creating a false sense of normalcy. This illusion of promised power fills a void left by the absence of love.
Every moment of every day, I am challenged by my own fear that arises from those I see who spew hateful propaganda. Their behavior, driven by the absence of love, contrasts with my own heart full of love and my day filled with loving actions.
I choose to focus on love, again and again. Every day I ask the Divine to guide me and to allow me to open my heart to everyone, especially those who hate. I step back from their hateful behavior, and I see the wounded person, so lacking in love. With great love, I offer compassion and understanding, which then helps me overcome my own fear.
I would like my life to be a statement of love and compassion and where it isn’t, that’s where my work lies.
Ram Dass
As long as I am willing to face my fears and ask for guidance, no matter how much discomfort may arise, I will not forget who I am. I align myself with the energy of the Divine.
I am love. Beautiful, Divine love. And so are you. Choose love, always choose love.
