One spring morning, more than 50 years ago, I was sitting on the living room floor of the small 3-bedroom ranch home shared by my first husband, his business partner and I. On this day, for no particular reason, the three of us decided to drop acid (LSD), like we’d done so many times before.
Sitting on the floor near an open door bathing in the warmth of the morning sun, I began to notice I was uber focused on the dazzling lush green of the trees and the lawn, and I was certain the birds were actually singing to me. Slowly, I began to notice that the ‘I’, the me who took the drug, seemed to cease existing. I didn’t disappear but rather I melted into everything around me. There was no separation. It wasn’t trees and grass and birds and Lee. It was treesgrassbirdleeeverythingeveryone – one magnificent living, breathing entity. No separation. No Lee. No trees or grass. No birds. Just us. One Soul, our hearts beating as one.
Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things are connected.

I was sobbing uncontrollably, not understanding what was happening. I was overwhelmed with emotions, feeling both awe and joy. I chalked it off to bad drugs swearing never to do that again (a promise I kept). It wasn’t until years later that I came to recognize this as my first direct experience of Oneness.
“Oneness is not a concept, and it is far more than Truth. Oneness is who we are beyond the body.”
There is no separation, we are one with everything and everyone. Oneness is the collective Soul, it is the Soul of all beings, all life, the Soul of absolutely everything. Separation is an illusion and the only thing that keeps us from recognizing our Oneness is the conditioning and lies we have bought into.
I now know this in my bones, in my heart, and at my core: I am one with everyone and everything. This is who I am.
Why is this important to realize this? Because the only way to end suffering is to let go of the concept of separation and embrace Oneness. It is that simple.
Once we know who we are, we realize there is no need to fix ourselves or anyone else. Knowing our True Divine Nature frees us to live a life of Love, letting our light shine through. This wakening—remembering who we are—is why we are here.
